• Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed?

  • Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
  • Avoid foolish controversies, arguments and quarrels because these are unprofitable and useless.

COMMENTARY: See this link for understanding of princes.

  • Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. Such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.
  • Command people not to teach false doctrines or to devote themselves to myths. Such things promote controversial speculations.

COMMENTARY: Christian Nationalists are famous for creating and reciting conspiracy theories. These are the equivalent of false doctrines and myths which cause division which is designed to attract uneducated, fearful people to Christian Nationalism and support its leaders with money and votes.

  • Warn against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.
  • Avoid godless chatter. Their teaching will spread like gangrene.
  • Reject foolish and ignorant speculation because it breeds quarreling.
  • Do not trust in deceptive words.
  • It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in man.
  • It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in princes.

  • Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD.

  • Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.

  • They have made a covenant with death, And with Hell have made a pact. They have made falsehood their refuge and have concealed themselves with deception.

  • Woe to the rebellious children, Who execute a plan; And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin;

  • How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

  • He regards the lowly, But the haughty He knows from afar.

  • For these are rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction. They say to the seers, “See no more visions!” and to the prophets, “Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions. Leave this way, get off this path, and stop confronting us.

“Woe to the rebellious children,” declares the LORD , “Who execute a plan, but not Mine, And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin; Who proceed down to Egypt Without consulting Me, To take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh And to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt! “Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation. “For their princes are at Zoan And their ambassadors arrive at Hanes. “Everyone will be ashamed because of a people who cannot profit them, Who are not for help or profit, but for shame and also for reproach.”

Proverbs 1:10-19

10 My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.
11 If they say, “Come along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12 let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder;
14 cast lots with us; we will all share the loot”—
15 my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;
16 for their feet rush into evil, they are swift to shed blood.
17 How useless to spread a net where every bird can see it!
18 These men lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush only themselves!
19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.

Isaiah 59:3-8

For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken falsely, and your tongue mutters wicked things.
No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.
They hatch the eggs of vipers and spin a spider’s web. Whoever eats their eggs will die, and when one is broken, an adder is hatched.
Their cobwebs are useless for clothing; they cannot cover themselves with what they make. Their deeds are evil deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands.
Their feet rush into sin; they are swift to shed innocent blood. They pursue evil schemes; acts of violence mark their ways.
The way of peace they do not know; there is no justice in their paths. They have turned them into crooked roads; no one who walks along them will know peace.

Mark 7:15-23

15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.”
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable.
18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them?
19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)
20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them.
21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder,
22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.
23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

1 Corinthians 5:11

11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

Proverbs 22:24-25

24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered,
25 or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.

Proverbs 15:18

18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.

Proverbs 29:22

22 An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.

Proverbs 24:9

The schemes of folly are sin, and people detest a mocker.

Isaiah 29:20

20 The ruthless will vanish, the mockers will disappear, and all who have an eye for evil will be cut down—

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
