TEST THE SPIRIT
The Bible is very clear about the need to discern the difference between false gospels and the true gospel. It is not well understood that Old Testament regulations address the issue of clean and unclean foods. Good, Clean Spiritual Food is the true gospel and all false gospels are Evil Soulish Food .

STUDY TIP: See DISCERNING BETWEEN CLEAN AND UNCLEAN, HOLY AND PROFANE, SOUL AND SPIRIT, and GOOD AND EVIL. Also see this link and this link for tips on how to identify true prophets, and  this link for tips on how to identify  false prophets.

Here is another scripture that make the point about testing the spirit of the person speaking:

1 John 4:  Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

COMMENTARY: This tells us that we should not believe everyone who talks about God. Because Adam and Eve were not discerning about the two kinds of trees, they ate fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and died a spiritual death. They thought the words of false prophets seemed good and ate them (i.e. listened to the words of the false prophet. The false prophets are in the world of religion and people should not listen to them.

2 By this you know the of God: every spirit which confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
3 and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God. This is the spirit of antichrist, of which you heard that it was coming, and now it is in the world already.
COMMENTARY: This verse is not well understood. The only way to understand it is to look at the original Greek text which reads like this:
4 Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
5 They are of the world, therefore what they say is of the world, and the world listens to them.
6 We are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and he who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
