ORIGINAL SIN
To understand the concept of original sin, it is necessary to first review the following links for understanding of the spiritual meaning of the Genesis story:

Putting this all together, we have the definition of sin: Eating the spoken or written words of anyone other than God or his anointed spokespersons. This is useful instruction only if we are able to distinguish between the two kinds of trees. As the Bible says, both trees appeared to be good for food. Just like Adam and Eve had freedom to choose between the two trees, we also have a choice. If we don’t know how to tell the difference, there is a very good chance that we will choose the wrong tree. And that is what happens when people choose religion.

Here is what we need to know so that we will not choose wrongly:

Trees of Life

Trees of Knowledge of Good and Evil

Instead of listening to and obeying God’s voice regarding the two trees, Adam and Eve listened to the voice of the serpent and ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. This is the original sin that led to the sin of religion.

In this definition of sin, we also have the justification for calling religion sin: Religion always involves reading and/or listening to the words of religious leaders which God calls Trees of Knowledge of Good and Evil whose words (i.e. teachings, writings) God calls evil, soulish food. This food contrasts with the food served by God and the people he sends to speak on his behalf who are called Trees of Life.

Thus it can be said that eating (i.e. intellectually ingesting) the written or spoken words of Old/First  Covenant religious leaders, and then acting on what they teach, constitutes sin in God’s eyes. These leaders/teachers are called idols, False Prophets, Judas, Kings, Queens and Princes,  Pharisees and Scribes,  Serpents, Devils, Satans, Adversaries, Demons, Evil Spirits and Anti-Christs. People who listen to such people and follow what they teach practice the sin of idolatry because they listen to and obey those teachers instead of listening to and obeying God’s voice.

It must be said also, however, that New Covenant disciples are anointed by God to speak on his behalf through the power and influence of his spirit. These sent ones are called true prophets, angelsmessiahs, high priests, witnesses, and warriors.
