Christian Nationalists often make oblique references to doctrines in the US Constitution to justify their policies regarding the Seven Mountain Mandate.  These references are typically cloaked in patriotic rhetoric that appeals to people who are factually ignorant of the facts about the Constitution. These references can be competently refuted by revealing the facts about the US Constitution.

Unfortunately, most Americans, including Christian Nationalists, are ignorant of the facts about the US Constitution and Amendments. The reason for this ignorance is that public education about these laws have not been considered a priority for public education. If the Constitution and Amendments had always been taught in public schools, it is doubtful that Christian Nationalists would have ever acquired the influence they have today.

Filling the gap in education about the Constitution through public education will not happen unless governments (state, federal and local) make education about the Constitution a priority. Until that happens, there is a big gap for educators, journalists and knowledgeable private citizens to fill as truthtellers.

Because of the power Christian Nationalists have over state and federal legislative bodies there is strong resistance at the state and federal levels to mandate teaching about the Constitution and other historical issues that might threaten loss of power. In other words, Christian Nationalists benefit from public ignorance of history because, absent historical facts, they are free to create false narratives that support their political objectives. Responsibility to fill the truth gap accrues to journalists, scholars and individual American citizens.

It is out of the scope of Confronting Christian Nationalism to try to fill this knowledge gap. Journalists and scholars have the skills and platforms from which they can educate the American public about the US Constitution and history. The question is whether or not they will assume that responsibility.

Even if journalists and scholars do their part to research and disseminate the truth about the US Constitution and American history, all other American citizens must do their part to keep informed and privately share truth with their Christian Nationalist family, friends and neighbors. Confronting Christian Nationalism will continue to do its part to post relevant articles for all to see.

In the meantime, all Americans would do well to inform themselves about the Constitution and Bill of Rights so they can correctly critique and correct Christian Nationalism’s distorted, self-serving, narrative of the Constitution and Amendments. These are the rule of law that underpins America’s strength and security.  Any shading of truth on them creates trouble for the entire nation.
